Who owns tyler street garage
The latter, found on the rooftop terrace, is a modern interpretation of the tiki bars of the s and 50s, paying tribute to the founding father of tiki outfits, Don the Beachcomber, as well as more contemporary offerings like San Francisco's Smuggler's Cove.
The new fit-out hones in on the tiki shack theme with a thatched roof, plush velvet seating and a striking tropical mural hand painted by Auckland artist Margarita Vovna. The drinks menu is also a key piece of the equation. And big and boozy they are. Further notable listings include the Jaguar Bowl that serves between people and the Old Fashioned twist on a colada.
In tune with the tiki theme, a staunch focus has been put on theatrical glassware and the finest of Caribbean rums. Cocktail drinking sustenance is supplied by the folks downstairs at The Chamberlain. The menu whipped up by chef Ollie Fitton includes proper pub grub like deep-fried pies, barbecue duck wings, an entire turkey leg, housemade sausages and Beast Fries that come topped with shredded meat and house sauce.
The drinks list at The Chamberlain is more along the straight and narrow with 14 tap beers that will constantly evolve. Everything about Tyler Street Garage is geared towards big, noisy, fun nights out: the enamel pitchers of tap beer, the fun, flirty signature cocktails and the small but satisfying menu. Check out the new menu then head on down for an after work drink and a bite to eat.

Not sure about Tyler's own brew, but they have a great selection of other beers to choose from. Tyler Street Garage is relatively new on the Auckland bar scene, and adds just a little something more. This place genuinely did used to be a garage and has the yellow lined concrete to prove it.
However it doesn't make it look untidy, if anything, it fits with the industrial decor. It's just a great space. It's awesome for after work drinks, a weekend session or for a celebration of sorts - but get there early to sort out your possie, this place gets packed out pretty quickly. There's a brilliant outdoor area upstairs for those willing to brave the elements or just wanting a taste of the salty sea air - did I mention it backs onto Quay st?
The bar staff are fairly helpful, but can be a little busy and stressed, but with that many customers, I don't blame them. The patronage may die down a bit as the novelty factor wears off, but this is a cool bar and I doubt this will be the case. Great food, great space and a great place to catch up with friends. Another friend's leaving do was held there last night. Go there just before 10pm and it was already pretty packed - a great sign. Take a quick nip in the toilet not soiled, another good sign and head over to the bar.
Catch the attention of a barmaid pretty quickly but she was pretty foul when I asked for a "CC and Dry". She grumbled "We have no CC? Look, okay I might not know what your bar stocks, but you don't have to be nasty about it?
