Why does opportunity only knocks once
Every year, every day, and if we want to be more precise, every moment we are presented with choices, with opportunities. And what if the biggest opportunities we are presented with are in fact made up of all the tiniest moments that we barely noticed? Any given moment is like a spec of sand, so tiny that it can easily be missed amongst the billions of grains of sand, or the larger rocks and boulders in our lives.
Yet those tiny moments and continued choices make up our fabric, and sewn together make us who we are, they are the stories of our life. Each moment is an opportunity to follow our heart, to show kindness, to stop and look around and take in all we have to be grateful for. Each moment is an opportunity to live with compassion, to study what we love, to tell people we care, to be gentle with ourselves, and to be true to our authentic self.
Today you have already had opportunities present themselves, perhaps it was an opportunity to be kinder to yourself, maybe compliment someone, or thank someone for making you day easier. You have had the opportunity to be angry, sad, grateful, compassionate, cruel, or happy, and all the moments of today have rolled into this day, moments and opportunities passed without even being aware.
Life is full of opportunities and when those big ones present if it feels right, if it is what you have been waiting for then go ahead and grab it! It is a state of mind, we chose whether to live with regret, do I regret things, yes I do! I deeply regret some things that I did do, but did I learn from them, grow from them, yes of course I did. So would I change them of given the opportunity? If it means changing who I am now, or where I am now? Then No.
Regret is a reminder for me to never allow others to manipulate me again, a reminder that I am in control of my choices.
I am not crippled by my regrets I am empowered by them. In each and every little moment you are capable of opportunities for happiness.
Welcome to your life, what are you going to choose to believe? Do opportunities only come once? Are we able to create second chances? Share with me your thoughts I would love to hear from you.
I would like to believe in karma — ie that if you do something good for someone then your good deeds will be some how repaid — I am not entirely sure that this is true though. I definitely believe that we are all dealt fairly equal hands of good and bad cards in our lives. The trick is how we decide to play those cards and how we see them.

Or that we need to open up new doors and walk through them before they close. Take me for example, I am a perfect candidate for this proverb.
I have messed up in school once or twice before, but now a new opportunity has opened up for me. I got into a very privileged school and now I really need to do my best. So this is not my first time hearing this, as it has been said to me many times before.
Opportunity only knocks once means to me that once you get to the point in your life where you can can perspire your dreams then you take advantage of it. Opportunity is selfish but when it finally comes around you better never let it go. Opportunity came around for me when i made that final shot to win my AAU basketball game. My coach didn't think i was good enough to start but he finally put me in the game when we were losing and i won the game for us.
After this moment, my coach started me and now thinks higher of me. The phrase, Opportunity only knocks, once means that second chances are never guaranteed. I mean if you are given an opportunity what is the point of wasting time and not taking advantage. Not to to be corny, but YOLO actually has alot of truth behind it. You don't ever want to be the guy regretting that he did not take advantage of his chance. For example, it's like if there was a girl you liked for a while and you thought that maybe she liked you too.
When this dream girl finally comes around you just pass your opportunity by and not tell her your true feelings. Then like 10 years later you still regret that you never let her know how you felt and that just sucks. I believe that the proverb "opportunity only knocks once" means that very once in a while, you will be offered a special opportunity, and you have to decide whether or not to take it. This opportunity may seem like it is "once in a life time", but the truth is that you may get another chance later in a few years.
Usually, an opportunity never "knocks once", it almost always comes every once in a while. There is always next time. A perfect example of this would be the Summer Olympics. These games only come every four years, and if you are an athlete that is offered the opportunity to participate in them, then you should seize this opportunity while you can. This applies more to older athletes who may not be able to qualify for the games later since they are rapidly aging and will not have the same athletic ability as they used to.
While some may take it as an excuse to make unwise or irrational decisions, I see it as a reminder that every event in your life will only happen once in exactly the same way, and that on every occasion you should be having as much fun as possible, applying yourself as hard as possible, soaking up life, and making responsible choices that you will not regret later.
So, in some ways, it is not a proverb, but an actual life philosophy. An example of this ideaology that many could relate to is your one shot at high school. Obviously you need to make good choices and study hard so that you can live a successful adult life, but at the same time, it is your last four years of pure childhood before you're off to college and then to work.
Clearly those are four years that you need to fill with as much pure fun as you can manage, and seize every opportunity you can find. Well if I had to sum it up, it means that someone may only have one chance to do something, so why not make it your best, because it may be your last.
If someone puts in effort or attitude like it is the last time they will be able to do something, it will make it all worthwhile. Even if it is not the last time someone is not doing something they should treat it like it is the last, because you can never know what will happen.
This was my last year at camp and I can never go back as a camper again. I wanted to try everything and do new things because I knew it was my last opportunity to be at camp and be with my friends. Now that I am home I am happy that I tried everything because I will never get to do it again.
